What is InCoWriMo?
The International Correspondence Writing Month, otherwise know as InCoWriMo, is upon us! Every February beckons the writing challenge of the year.
We love these types of challenges, because of how they remind us of the ‘good old days’ where analogue tools ruled supreme for the whole population! This challenge is a great opportunity to practice your handwriting, make some new friends and even just send a letter to a loved one. You can read more about the history and idea here.
The rules of InCoWriMo
The rules are simple: According to the official website “InCoWriMo challenges you to hand-write and mail/deliver one letter, card, note or postcard every day during the month of February.”
Another critical part of the month is this rule: “No computers, no typewriters, no emails, no texts, no tweets, no whatever-they-are on Facebook. InCoWriMo correspondence must be written by hand.”
We love it. There is nothing more enjoyable than sitting down and letting your thoughts flow through your hand, into the ink and then out, forever, onto the paper.
Who should you write to?
One great part of this challenge is finding new and like-minded people to correspond with. There are many resources in the stationery community that help you find a pen pal for the month. There is ‘the list’ from the InCoWriMo website, which includes many notable recipients such as Larry Page and J.K. Rowling! You can also check out the ‘Participant map’ for names of other people who have signed up! There are also plenty of pen pal programs being run on the FPGeeks and FPN forums.
What should you write?
But what should you include in your letters? Be sure to include a brief bio about yourself. Some interests and what part of the world you are from are great to include. Be sure to also ask questions of your recipient, as chances are, they are also looking for someone to write too! The InCoWriMo blog also has a great guide about writing the perfect letter!
Some letter writing supplies
In terms of supplies, we want to find something noteworthy. Letters should leave you feeling special, so you need some stationery that matches this sensation. For this, we recommend the beautiful letters from French company G.Lalo. Their beautiful writing tablet comes complete with plenty of envelopes so you have everything required for the month!
Another piece of stationery that is needed for that ultimate letter is a wax stamp. These can be found for a very reasonable price on amazon, and go a long way in completing the perfect letter.
We urge each and every one of you to get involved in this years InCoWriMo writing challenge. To live each day, writing something new, something special and something worth sharing is a challenge we can see many of you enjoying.
However, of course, we have to urge you even further to complete this challenge utilising your collection of fountain pens, this challenge doubles as a great way to get to know some inks or pens that haven’t seen the light of day they deserve!
We’d love to hear about your plans for InCoWriMo
